Rodrigo's Tribute to Aranjuez
Spanish composer Rodrigo, who was blind, wrote his Concierto de Aranjuez in 1939, inspired by the beauty of the sprawling baroque gardens of the royal palace in Aranjuez, the historic summer residence of the Spanish royal family. According to the composer, you can hear in this music 'the scent of magnolias, the singing of birds and the cheerful splashing of fountains' in this music. Rodrigo's Concierto is arguably the most famous guitar concerto ever written, in part thanks to its moving slow movement that regularly echoes in films and documentaries.
