Nederlands Kamerorkest & Nikola Meeuwsen
Mozart | Pianoconcert nr.23
Nikola Meeuwsen performs Mozart's Piano Concerto no. 23. Furthermore, Gordan Nikolić conducts the Dutch Chamber Orchestra in music by Beethoven, Ravel and a commissioned work by Julian Tjon Sack Kie.
Nikola Meeuwsen, the Netherlands' rapidly rising piano virtuoso, became the first Dutch winner of the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2025. A highlight of the competition was his performance in the semi-final of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 9, his favorite composer. It's no coincidence that Meeuwsen now returns to the Dutch Chamber Orchestra with Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23. A piano concerto of great, but especially refined quality, if only for the gently melancholic siciliano of the middle section.
Ravel, a great admirer of Mozart, takes you on a beautiful journey of sound around familiar fairy tales. We open Ravel's suite with a new work by Julian Tjon Sack Kie. His music moves between Western music, electronics, his Surinamese roots and West Africa. As a contrast to the elegant music of Mozart, Gordan Nikolić conducts the Dutch Chamber Orchestra in Beethoven's rugged Grosse Fuge, a grandiose tour de force for strings.
