Händel | Messiah
PRJCT Amsterdam & Maarten Engeltjes
PRJCT Amsterdam and Maarten Engeltjes perform Händel's Messiah in a performance that does justice to the Baroque tradition.
Georg Friedrich Handel, known primarily as an opera composer during his lifetime, built an impressive career in London with dozens of operas for his own company. Only later did he turn his attention to the oratorio, with the Messiah becoming one of his most beloved works. This piece, composed in a relatively short time, continues to appeal to audiences today through its wealth of musical ideas and broad popularity, comparable to the Matthew Passion tradition in the Netherlands.
Countertenor Maarten Engeltjes and his ensemble PRJCT Amsterdam return regularly. Following earlier projects such as Tears of a Mother and Handel's Brockes Passion, they have now chosen this composer once again with a performance of the Messiah. Their performances are consistently praised for their quality and conviction.
