Cappella Amsterdam
Bach
Cappella Amsterdam sings motets by Bach under the direction of chief conductor Daniel Reuss. The motets move between extremes and are interwoven with passages from Bach's Cello Suite in G major (BWV 1007), Suite in D minor (BWV 1008) and Suite in C major (BWV 1009). This concert brings Bach in all his contrasts: Singet dem Herrn and Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf brim with exuberance, while Komm, Jesu, komm and Jesu, meine Freude seek tranquility instead.

Although motets were already being composed before Bach's time, it was the German composer who gave the genre its own signature. He wrote numerous motets, often for special occasions. Many works were therefore only performed once and not properly archived. Fortunately, enough compositions have managed to withstand the test of time.
