Women Singing for Peace brings together women from Haarlem for a special afternoon filled with singing, meeting and connection. Previous editions at other locations in Haarlem and the surrounding area were successful and attracted a very diverse group.
Initiators Yvonne Moonen and Charo Durán invite women from different groups in Haarlem society to sing together and meet each other. Under the guidance of vocal liberator and singer Charo Durán, with Pouriya Jaberi on percussion, we sing short, heartwarming songs this afternoon, experiencing our mutual connection through singing.
Whether you love to sing or think you can't sing: all women are welcome! We invite women, women-identifying persons and non-binary persons from all neighborhoods, ages, cultures, religions and backgrounds to participate. Simple, transcultural songs make it easy for everyone to sing along. It is precisely by meeting each other that we discover how much we have in common and that connecting with others is easier than you sometimes think.
The initiative is prompted by the increasing hardening of society. Music and singing together strengthen our mutual connection and in this way we increase peace at a micro level with each other in our beautiful Haarlem. Meet other women you might not normally encounter and chat over a bite and a drink after singing.
Be welcome as you are. Bring your mother, friend or neighbor along, who in turn brings someone else. Or bring someone you don't know well yet.
Sing together and meet together. And together, let a sound of peace be heard!
