Camerata RCO & pianist Florian Verweij
Dvořák, Shostakovich
Camerata RCO presents a chamber music program together with pianist Florian Verweij featuring works by Dmitri Shostakovich and Antonín Dvořák.
The Shostakovich Quintet is one of the most impressive chamber music works of the 20th century. Dmitri Shostakovich composed the Piano Quintet in G minor, opus 57, in 1940 for piano and string quartet. The work combines deep emotion, drama and introspection with moments of irony and light folk influences, characteristic of Shostakovich's musical language. The quintet was an immediate success and earned the composer the Stalin Prize.
Its counterpart in this programme is the beloved second piano quintet by Antonín Dvořák. For these highlights from the chamber music repertoire, Camerata RCO, consisting of members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, collaborates with pianist Florian Verweij.
With the unfiltered expression of Shostakovich and the zest for life of Dvořák, this chamber music programme skillfully navigates the extremes of the human psyche.
