Saxophonist Kika Sprangers presents her new project river, river with her band. The concert celebrates the release of the album of the same name, in which the wordless voice of Anna Serierse seamlessly merges with Kika's saxophone sound and the band's improvisations.

Listening to Sprangers is like looking at a Rothko painting: hidden undercurrents nestle in her musical planes of color that unconsciously sweep the audience along. With her distinctive, melodic and dark saxophone sound, Sprangers is a leading voice in the Dutch jazz scene. This status was underscored in 2025 with winning an Edison Jazz Nationaal for the album (In)finity.

In Kika's quest for what makes us human, her new project river, river (2026) is her most personal work to date. Her new music reflects the river as a metaphor for mankind and its life journey: how it develops, flows, finds its own path, meanders or churns forcefully. Kika grew up by the river and can relate to this metaphor.
