Calefax and trumpet virtuoso Eric Vloeimans present a brand new and swinging version of Purcell's famous baroque opera Dido and Aeneas.
The classic tragedy of Virgil gets a whole new dimension in Dido & Aeneazz, a recomposition of the opera by Raaf Hekkema (saxophonist of Calefax), supplemented with newly composed pieces by Eric Vloeimans.
The listener is taken along the mythical story like in a musical rollercoaster ride that transitions from baroque to jazz, via calypso and klezmer, and back again. The colorful music is vividly illustrated during the concert by beautiful illustrations from artist Hedy Tjin. In the performance, Calefax and Vloeimans are joined by members of Vloeimans’ top band Gatecrash: Gulli Gudmundsson (bass) and Jasper van Hulten (drums).
