Spinvis en band
Poëtische elektro-folk
One of the most unconventional artists in Dutch pop music: Spinvis!
For Spinvis, it's been like this since the beginning: how the songs sound on the record and how they come to life live are often two completely different worlds. A good song is never set in stone. It changes, grows, and moves along with the times. In fact, a song is never really finished.
In 2025, the Spinvis band will go on a journey of discovery again. We are searching for new paths, sometimes we get deliciously lost, often we find exactly what we didn't know we were looking for. More acoustic, more voices, maybe even a touch of electro-folk. We don't know exactly yet, but that's what makes it so exciting. One thing is certain: we are eager to turn the beautiful PHIL Haarlem upside down with our quirky tingeltangel circus!
Classic Albums: Spinvis listening session and interview
We will listen together to Spinvis's first album, which was released in 2002. This idiosyncratic record has grown into one of the most influential Dutch-language debuts of the past few decades.
With songs like Before I Forget and Bicycle Carrier, Spinvis introduced a new sound: poetic, dreamy, and personal. Before I Forget later became a staple in the Top 2000, and the album itself was praised by critics and the public for its unique tone. About the making of it, Spinvis once said:“I had no plan. Just a few songs and an old recorder. The rest came naturally.”
In between listening to the songs, we will talk with Spinvis, led by Menno Pot, about the creation of this album. After this special listening experience, there will be a signing session in the foyer of PHIL.
