Mozart's Requiem
Of all musical requiems, Mozart's overwhelming requiem is perhaps the most well-known. He wrote it at the end of his life, possibly at the request of a mysterious client who wanted to remain anonymous. Mozart passed away while he was still fully engaged in composing: his dramatic and moving masterpiece was left unfinished.
Roberto González-Monjas and Cappella Amsterdam
The Dutch Chamber Orchestra and Cappella Amsterdam collaborate regularly. This time they present a program under the direction of Roberto González Monjas and Heide Müller, with Mozart's Requiem at its center.
Let yourself be moved by the seriousness and intensity of Haydn's Symphony No. 44, nicknamed the Symphony of Mourning. This captivating composition exudes a dark, almost meditative atmosphere. With dramatic contrasts, serene passages, and a poignant Adagio, Haydn demonstrates how music can capture emotions without words.
Cappella Amsterdam opens the program with an early work by Mozart and two fairy-tale choral works by the successful contemporary composer, violinist, and singer Caroline Shaw.
