Kleine Zaal

Surprisingly warm atmosphere

Experience the intimate atmosphere of the Kleine Zaal during your conference or meeting. Former boat builders have completely covered the hall with wood, which contributes to its warm appearance. It feels like all 408 seats are front row, as close as you sit to the stage as a visitor.

The Small Hall is a great favorite

This hall is particularly beloved by musicians due to its excellent acoustics, which give concerts a unique sound and depth. Speakers also highly appreciate the hall, especially because of the proximity to the audience. This not only enhances interaction and creates an engaged atmosphere but also puts the speaker at ease.

Plenary, sub-session or recording?

The  Kleine Zaal is adjacent to the Boven Foyer and is usually used as a plenary space or as a sub-room next to the Grote Foyer. The total capacity is 408, but when the balcony (125 seats) is closed, there remains a capacity of 283 below. Because of its warm ambiance, this hall is also popular for video or TV recordings.

TWijs study day

October 30, 2023

Every two years, Foundation TWijs organizes a study day for the 31 affiliated primary schools in South Kennemerland. Around 750 teachers, principals, and administrators from this partnership gathered in the PHIL for a plenary information session in the Grote Zaal, followed by inspiring and creative workshops in four smaller rooms. The day was, of course, concluded with a pleasant networking reception.

Filming a commercial

November 19, 2024

Our building is regularly used as a filming location for movies, TV shows, or commercials. Recently, recordings were made in our Kleine Zaal for the campaign VGZ helps to innovate healthcare with Eva Eikhout. Just look at our beautiful hall shining in this charming commercial!

Psychedelics conference

June 10, 2024

For the second time, the PHIL was the venue for the prestigious international ICPR conference (Interdisciplinary Conference on Psychedelic Research). Our client, OPEN Foundation, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting knowledge and understanding of psychedelics through research. Not only was the PHIL well-rated, but the city of Haarlem was also so positively reviewed by academics, therapists, scientific researchers, clinical staff, and policymakers in 2022 that it became a reason to return in 2024.
