Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit
International Symphony Orchestra and Ukrainian Choir
With 3 Oscars, 2 Grammy Awards, and 2 Golden Globes to his name, Howard Shore is the undisputed master behind the iconic soundtracks of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Every note from the 140 musicians tells the epic of friendship, courage, and struggle in Middle-earth.
It is one of the most legendary soundtracks ever composed: Lord of the Rings. Composer Howard Shore wrote no less than 12 hours of music for this trilogy. And later another 8 hours for the film trilogy of The Hobbit.
Friendship, courage, and struggle in Middle-earth
During this unique concert, the impressive compositions from both film trilogies are brought together in a comprehensive symphony. The internationally renowned National Choir of Ukraine 'Dumka' and the highly acclaimed International Symphony Orchestra (INSO) from Lviv, conducted by maestro Raymond Janssen, are joining forces once again. After their triumphs with works such as Carmina Burana, Harry Potter, and Porgy and Bess, they are staging an exciting and spectacular concert. The orchestra takes on the role of the main storyteller throughout the entire symphony, while the choir brings the most significant moments to life.
Mythical and captivating
Howard Shore combined eleven languages, folk music, and an ingenious system of leitmotifs to deeply intertwine Tolkien's stories with the music. For The Hobbit, Shore went even further: in addition to recurring themes from LOTR, he composed new, layered melodies, such as a unique theme for Gandalf and the iconic Misty Mountains motif. Shore's innovative approach, where tradition and innovation come together, makes his work timeless and captivating. More than 150 musicians will bring this world to life in Dutch concert halls starting December 2025.
