Stadsorgelconcert in de Grote of St. Bavokerk
Bart Jacobs
Haarlem is known worldwide as the city of organs. The city has two top organs with a monumental status: the Christian Müller organ in the Great or St. Bavo Church and the Cavaillé-Coll organ in the PHIL.
Bart Jacobs studied organ, harpsichord, and basso continuo at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven with Reitze Smits and Kris Verhelst. After his studies, he was appointed organist of the then Brussels cathedral choir under the direction of Erik Van Nevel.
In 2012, he was appointed titular organist of the Saint Michael and Saint Gudula Cathedral in Brussels. Additionally, he is active in Bornem as an organist and driving force behind the Organ Association Bornem and the organ heritage in Klein-Brabant. As a soloist and accompanist, he performs with renowned ensembles such as Vox Luminis, Les Muffatti, Il Gardellino, A Nocte Temporis, and Psallentes.
The CD featuring his reconstructions of organ works by J. S. Bach, along with the baroque orchestra Les Muffatti, received international awards including the Diapason d'Or of the year 2019 (FR), a 10 in Luistermagazine, and the Klara Award. As an organist of the Vox Luminis ensemble, Bart Jacobs received the CHOC de Classica, Gramophone Editors' Choice, and Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
In 2022, his new CD ‘Recommended by Bach’ was released, performed on the new Contius organ in Leuven. Bart Jacobs contributed to the All of Bach project from the Dutch Bach Society. As a teacher of organ and harpsichord, he works at the Academy for Music, Word, and Dance in Bornem and the arts high school Lemmens Institute in Leuven. In 2021, he received the Culture Award Bornem.
From May to October, concerts are held on Tuesday evenings and in July and August also on Thursday afternoons in the Great St. Bavo Church by renowned organists from home and abroad.
