Simeon ten Holt’s Canto Ostinato
Voor vier concertvleugels
For this special concert, pianists from the earliest days return to the work that helped shape their careers. Their experience and familiarity with Ten Holt's language give the music a unique depth and an effortless musicality.
Arielle Vernède and Gerard Bouwhuis were involved in the first iconic performances during the 1980s. They also made a recording in 1988 that became an enormous commercial success.
Alongside these pioneers, two pianists join who now know the Canto Ostinato with equal intensity. Hannes Minnaar grew up with the music of Ten Holt and visited the composer at a young age. His clear touch and musical sensitivity align seamlessly with the spirit of the work. Pianist Ivo Janssen is likewise regarded as a seasoned interpreter, known for his crystal-clear timing and attention to tone color.
Together they bring the original instrumentation to life as Ten Holt himself preferred to hear it: four grand pianos in a large hall, where the music can resonate freely and the repeating patterns gain an almost architectural power.
