Sustainability
Solar collectors, LED lighting, and heat and cold storage
The installation of solar collectors on the roof of the PHIL marked the entry of sustainability into our organization in 2010. Since then, we haven’t been idle and continue to invest in making our buildings more sustainable. In collaboration with the municipality, we made the PHIL more sustainable in 2023 by improving insulation for the roof, facades, and windows, and by installing a heat and cold storage system underground.
There is a shift from conventional to moving LED lighting, and all halogen theater lamps are being replaced with more energy-efficient LED variants.
Haarlem climate neutral 2030
Corporate social responsibility means for us as an organization that we wish to contribute to addressing larger societal issues like climate change, air pollution, labor conditions, and aging. Our goal is to actively contribute to achieving the ambitions outlined in the “Haarlem Climate Neutral 2030” plan and to give it our own interpretation.
Fewer trucks in the city
Not only in the cultural field, but also in our operations, we are seeking collaboration with other cultural institutions in Haarlem. A good example of this is the umbrella agreement with HEINEKEN Horeca which we signed together with Slachthuis Haarlem, Patronaat, Brasserie van Beinum, and Caprera. Thanks to this collaboration, our five locations are guaranteed good purchasing prices for the next six years and we become a bit greener as fewer trucks are needed for deliveries.
Golden Green Key certificate
Green Key is the international label for sustainable businesses in the recreation, leisure, and corporate market. Since 2016, we have been certified Green Key Gold, which means that we consider sustainability in every step we take. These can be small, visible measures, but we are primarily making significant progress with less visible measures. Our ongoing efforts are rewarded, as we have once again achieved Golden certification this year.
