Korenbattle
Korenbattle at PHIL
PHIL is delighted to collaborate each year with the organization of Korenbattle Haarlem – a festive singing project for primary schools from Kennemerland. The initiative was created in 2020 by Meer Muziek in de Klas, with the aim of giving children more musical experiences. We have already welcomed four sold-out editions, with our main hall filled with singing pupils and enthusiastic parents.
How it works
Schools can register, after which twelve schools are selected to perform: six in the morning and six in the afternoon. Each participating school forms one choir with pupils from grades 5 through 8. On the day itself, the children attend workshops, rehearse on the main stage, and sing under the guidance of our own house band.
Jury & presentation
A fixed jury – consisting of Jeroen Kramer, Michiel Rozendal and a mystery guest – judges the performances on singing, rhythm and stage presence, among other things. The presentation is hosted by Merel Westrik, who keeps the day flowing with energy.
For teachers
Beforehand, we organize a practical workshop for teachers on teaching songs in the classroom and musically leading a large group. All teachers can register for this workshop, even if their class is not participating. Tip! This workshop is also very useful for preparing the grade 8 musical.
The workshop will take place on 12 November from 15:00-16:00 at PHIL.
