Initiatives for the elderly and against loneliness
Culture connects us, and this applies to the elderly as well. We livestream concerts to care institutions in the region so that elderly people who are less mobile can experience the beauty of live music. Loneliness among young people also has our attention.
At this moment, there are 1.3 million people in the Netherlands over the age of 75. The expectation is that this will rise to 2.1 million people by 2030. We have partnerships with various care institutions in Haarlem and the surrounding area to live stream several concerts per year to care institutions. This way, we can offer elderly individuals who are no longer mobile enough to visit our venues an afternoon or evening full of culture.
Through the program One Against Loneliness, local coalitions have been formed in many municipalities to combat loneliness among the elderly. In Haarlem the coalition Haarlem Meets was formed, which aims to reduce and prevent loneliness among residents by collaborating with social organizations. By joining the coalition, we want to actively involve people from this group by offering special activities tailored to their needs.
