The Snowman & Flight to the North Pole (4+)
by The James Whale Orchestra
The Snowman & Flight to the North Pole is a live-to-screen Christmas concert specially developed for young children from age 4. Two animated films without spoken dialogue are accompanied live by the James Whale Orchestra. Image and music together tell the story, creating a concert that children can follow effortlessly and that parents enjoy just as much.
The Snowman
The British animated film The Snowman, based on the book of the same name, is the ultimate Christmas classic for young children. The touching story of friendship between a boy and a snowman is accompanied by the iconic music of Howard Blake, which is performed live in its entirety. In the United Kingdom, The Snowman has been part of the fixed Christmas repertoire on television, in book form and in theater for decades. In the Netherlands, this live-to-screen performance is being presented for the first time. Few works are as inextricably linked to Christmas as The Snowman.
Flight to the North Pole
Flight to the North Pole follows a snowy owl on his journey through the far north towards the North Pole. Along the way, he encounters Arctic animals, braves the vast landscape and discovers the beauty of a winter nature full of snow, ice and the northern lights. The music was specially composed by Oliver Parr (musical director of the James Whale Orchestra) and forms an essential part of the story. The film has no spoken dialogue and speaks directly to the imagination of young viewers and their parents.
