Stadsorgelconcert in de Grote of St. Bavokerk
Wibren Jonkers
Haarlem is known worldwide as the city of organs. The city has two top organs with monumental status: the Christian Muller organ in St. Bavo Church and the Cavaillé-Coll organ in the PHIL.
Wibren Jonkers is active as a concert organist, church musician, and teacher. He is studying organ major at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Pieter van Dijk and Matthias Havinga. To develop broadly as a keyboard player, he is taking minor courses in basso continuo with Miklós Spányi, harpsichord and clavichord with Menno van Delft, and piano with Jaap Kooi. At the Rotterdam Conservatorium (Codarts), Wibren studied church music and took improvisation lessons with Hayo Boerema.
He received masterclasses from, among others, Michel Bouvard, Ben van Oosten, Louis Robilliard, and Thomas Trotter. In addition to his musical activities, he is studying theology at the Theological University Apeldoorn. Wibren is connected as a church musician to the Fonteinkerk in Amersfoort. He is also the cantor of the Protestant Community Zeewolde and the vespers organist of the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. He gives organ and piano lessons, performs as a continuo player, and regularly accompanies choirs and soloists. Wibren has won prizes in various competitions, including first prizes at the Duyschot Organ Competition Amsterdam (2022) and the International Martini Organ Competition Groningen (2024).
From May to October, concerts are held on Tuesday evenings and in July and August also on Thursday afternoons in the Grote or St. Bavo Church by renowned organists from home and abroad.
