Stadsorgelconcert in de Grote of St. Bavokerk

Dorien Schouten

geen pauze

Haarlem is known worldwide as the city of organs. The city has two top organs with a monumental status: the Christian Müller organ in the Great or St. Bavo Church and the Cavaillé-Coll organ in the PHIL.

Dorien Schouten received her first organ lessons from Ko Zwanenburg. At the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, she obtained her bachelor's degrees in both organ (2010) and church music (2011). Her organ teacher was Jos van der Kooy. Dorien then continued her studies at the Universität der Künste in Berlin with Leo van Doeselaar and Erwin Wiersinga. There she obtained her Diplomprüfung in 2013 and her Konzertprüfung 'with distinction' in 2015 under Leo van Doeselaar and Paolo Crivellaro. That same year, she had the opportunity to record several works by Bach for the All of Bach project of the Netherlands Bach Society on the Reil organ in Kampen. In 2022, Dorien completed the Application Course in Choral Conducting at HKU in Utrecht, and since 2023, she has been the conductor of the Brabants Chamber Choir.

Dorien enjoys introducing the audience to new music, both solo and with ensembles. She also loves performing baroque music, preferably on historical instruments or as a continuo player. Since 2019, Dorien has been the cantor-organist of the Tuindorp Church in Utrecht.

From May to October, concerts are held on Tuesday evenings and in July and August also on Thursday afternoons in the Grote or St. Bavo Church by renowned organists from both the Netherlands and abroad.
