Stadsorgelconcert in de Grote of St. Bavokerk
Carsten Zündorf
Haarlem is known worldwide as the city of organs. The city has two top organs with a monumental status: the Christian Müller organ in the Great or St. Bavo Church and the Cavaillé-Coll organ in the PHIL.
Carsten Zündorf received his first organ lessons from Prof. Dr. Helmut Fleinghaus. He studied church music and (choir) conducting at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen with Prof. Gisbert Schneider and Prof. Ralf Otto. From 1992 to 2005, Carsten Zündorf was the cantor at the Oude Kerk Wupperfeld, later also at the Unterbarmer Hauptkirche in Wuppertal-Barmen. He is also the artistic director of the Wuppertal Organ Festival. Since 2006, Zündorf has been working as the music director of the Mariakerk in Osnabrück. His CD series 'Mit Bach durchs Jahr' received much acclaim in the press as "one of the cleverest editions of Johann Sebastian Bach's music there is." Zündorf can regularly be heard on German radio and gives many concerts as an organist and conductor in Germany and other European countries.
From May to October, concerts are held on Tuesday evenings and also on Thursday afternoons in July and August at the Grote of St.-Bavokerk by renowned organists from home and abroad.
