Stadsorgelconcert in de Grote of St. Bavokerk
Arjen Leistra
Haarlem is known worldwide as the city of organs. The city has two top organs with a monumental status: the Christian Müller organ in the Great or St. Bavo Church and the Cavaillé-Coll organ in the PHIL.
Arjen Leistra received his first organ lessons from Christiaan Ingelse and subsequently studied organ and church music at the conservatories in Rotterdam and The Hague. In 1996, Arjen became the 2nd prize winner of the ‘International Organ Competition’ in Dublin. After graduating in 1998, he continued his organ studies for a year with Marie-Claire Alain in Paris.
Since 2008, Arjen Leistra has been connected as an organist to the Grote Kerk in Schiedam. As the city organist of Schiedam, he is also responsible for the management and playing of the historical organs in the Stedelijk Museum and the Havenkerk.
His organ lesson practice has many students. Additionally, he is a sought-after choir accompanist on organ, piano, and pump organ, as well as a continuo player on his own chamber organ.
Arjen Leistra gives organ concerts both nationally and internationally. Several CDs of his organ playing have been released in recent years.
From May to October, concerts are held on Tuesday evenings and also on Thursday afternoons in July and August at the Grote or St. Bavokerk, featuring renowned organists from both the Netherlands and abroad.
