Program
Johannes Brahms - A German Requiem
Karol Szymanowski - Stabat Mater
Brahms composed a work with Ein deutsches Requiem (1865-1868) that radically broke with the traditional form of the Latin funeral mass: a grand requiem in German, for which he selected texts from the Old and New Testament himself.
In this concert, Brahms’ requiem is presented in a unique combination with the Stabat Mater (1925-1926) by the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski. He too wrote a moving and comforting work in his native language.
